#160 - Dean Wareham - Love is Colder Than Death / She Went Walking in the Rain
Love is Colder Than Death was Dean Wareham’s first solo single since Anesthesia 22 years earlier! The a-side was a taster from the upcoming album Emancipated Hearts while the b-side was a cover of Cheval Sombre’s She Went Walking in the Rain.
The single was released in August 2013 by Sonic Cathedral and came packaged in another lovely Sharon Lock sleeve.
As I menetioned on an earlier post Love is Colder Than Death was named after a Rainer Werner Fassbinder film that I described as “grubby and over stylised” - Dean wasn’t that much of a fan of the film either… he told Pitchfork that “[i]t’s not a great film, but is a memorable title”.
This is the only physical release of Dean’s cover of She Went Walking in the Rain - the original was on Cheval Sombre’s second LP Mad Love and there’s also a fantastic live version on the Cheval Sombre / Sonic Boom live at St Pancras Old Church album.
