On Valentine’s Day in 1994 while promoting Bewitched, Dean Wareham and Sterling Morrison popped into the Modern Rock Live studio in NYC to be interviewed and perform a live version of Great Jones Street. I’ve shared the live performance before but this includes the interview with Dean & Sterling, and a phone-in segment.

At the beginning of 2001 Luna played a series of dates in various venues across NYC and I convinced Hazel that she would like a weekend break in NYC in February. We arranged to leave the boy with his grandparents and to stay with Bob in NYC for the weekend and we came over.

For the second show, 20 years ago today, Dean said he’d put me on the guestlist but for some reason I wasn’t on the list - or they couldn’t find the list. Bob and I were then taken downstairs while they tried to arrange something. We loitered, and chatted with a Brit in the backroom staff and finally we were supplied with comps.

The latest episode of the The Rock Star Biography Podcast has a lengthy discussion of Dean Wareham’s 2008 memoir Black Postcards.

Join Christian and Martha as they explore Dean’s Black Postcards, wherein Dean narrates the tragic demise of the former group, the mild success of the latter, and how falling in love with one’s new bassist doesn’t strengthen marital vows. LISTENER DISCRETION ADVISED: listening to this episode may cause Galaxie 500 memorabilia to cover your walls, and it isn’t cheap.

13 Most Beautiful: Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests will be getting screened in Melbourne, Australia as part of the PHOTO 2021 International Festival of Photography. This will be screened with the recorded scoundtrack *not* a live performance

The screening, as part of PHOTO 2021’s launch weekend, will be on 21st February at Bunjil Place, Narre Warren at 4pm - tickets are $10 and must be booked in advance

Between 1964 and 1966 Warhol shot approximately 500 rolls of film of which mostly were portraits of acquaintances, friends and celebrities visiting his iconic studio The Factory. Shot with a stationary Bolex 16mm camera the subjects were asked to simply sit in front of the camera for a 3-minute timeframe. The subject and camera remained almost motionless creating a seemingly ‘living portrait’.

In 2010 American musicians Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips were commissioned by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust to compose music to accompany 13 selected films from the series.

Two years ago today Dean Wareham and Cheval Sombre played one of their few shows promoting the fabulous Dean Wareham vs Cheval Sombre album.

I hadn’t seen these two clips and they’re lovely - great to see the projections of the art.

Sadly Cheval Sombre’s decision to sit down and play means we don’t see too much of him.

On Luna’s 2015 tour of New Zealand former bassist joined the band for a couple of dates - here’s a nice video of the band rehearsing Friendly Advice ahead of these dates (and a short clip of them playing live in Wellington).

Luna - Friendly Advice (rehearsal, September 2015)

This video was shared as part of Luna’s Pledgemusic campaign but I’m thinking that enough time has passed (to the point that Pledgemusic has since gone bust) that hopefully no one will mind me popping it online!

So… there I was spending a whole day getting part one of the A Head Full of Wishes review of the year and then I poured a full cup of coffee over my Macbook and … I lost the work, and lost the will to do it all again - I guess that’s what the shitshow that was 2020 did for me.

Anyway when I got to May I found this video that Dean & Britta popped on Facebook in one of their early forays into livestreaming from their living room.

I hope they don’t mind me popping it on YouTube!

Dean & Britta - Bobby Peru / The Sun Is Still Sunny (Echo Park, May 2020)

I have to say that one of my fave things of the lockdown livestreams has been watching Dean & Britta trying to switch off :)
