• Review of “Decomposing” tribute album
    Monday, October 29th, 2007

I just came across this review on derives.net of the “Decomposing” fan tribute album – nice to see it’s getting out there…
Once this has been said, “Decomposing” features a lot of successful exercises in style. A few contributors have tried to add beats, keyboards or organ but most of them are completely faithful to the [...]

  • Download: Dean & Britta @ The Bowery Ballroom – 16th October 2007
    Monday, October 29th, 2007

The Sound Of Indie has Dean & Britta’s recent CMJ performance at The Bowery Ballroom for download.
One of the highlights of this particular show was the ending Joy Division cover, Ceremony. What is even more impressive is that Ceremony was initially covered some 20 years ago by Dean’s first seminal band, Galaxie 500.

  • Download: Damon & Naomi The Black Cat, Washington DC – October 26th 2007
    Monday, October 29th, 2007

You can download Damon & Naomi’s recent performance in Washington DC from www.dimeadozen.org – registration is required.
It’s a decent recording although the taper was a little unimpressed…
So, that said, this is basically girlfriend music. Very nicely orchestrated girlfriend music – with four musicians, they still manage to create a very dense atmosphere of sound (I [...]

  • Audio: Magnetophone (Damon & Naomi) – E.T.A.
    Sunday, March 4th, 2007

It’s been almost excactly a year since I posted the first track from the Magnetophone demos, so I guess a reminder is in order. Magnetophone was a short-lived project of Damon & Naomi’s after Galaxie 500 split up. The band recorded some demos but nothing was officially released, they (apparently) played a couple of gigs [...]

  • Audio: Luna – Black Postcards
    Sunday, February 18th, 2007

I have to admit that I never really noticed Black Postcards as a stand-out track on Luna’s penultimate album Romantica. But live, on the band’s final tour in 2004/5 the song really came into its own.
This version is from the Friday night show of thier final weekend at The Bowery Ballroom and clocks in at [...]

  • Audio: Luna – WXPN – Malibu Love Nest
    Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

I guess on their last flit around the world Luna popped into radio studios all along the way. This performance of Malibu Love Nest (which was their show opener during most of the final tour) is from Philadelphia and was recorded as they passed through the city on their farewell tour in December 2004 and [...]
